This year has seen some great films released. These films have really changed Indian entertainment forever. They have featured our favorite stars, and many will likely pass into the canon as classics to be revisited decades from now. Here are our favorite films out of Bollywood so far this year.

Anek

Anek came out in May 2022 and stars Ayushmann Khurrana as Joshua, a covert operative who has to bring a rebel leader to negotiate a peace treaty that has been stalled for years. This action-packed thriller was a box office hit, and has also received positive reviews from critics.

In the India Times, the film received four out of five stars. Just as it did in The Print and The Guardian. There is a wide consensus that this is a quality film. Director Anubhav Sinha has already earned some fame from his previous works Article 15 and Mulk. Having won several awards from the International Indian Film Academy, FilmFare, and AACTA, this director has made a name for himself.

Runway 34

Inspired by the true events of a flight from Doha to Kochi that almost crashed due to low visibility. Ajay Devgn stars as Captain Vikrant, an arrogant pilot who has to land the flight after sending out a Mayday message. 

Expect cutting-edge visuals and a crisp narrative from Devgn who also doubles as the director of the film. This thriller received rave reviews from the critics but was a surprisingly successful movie in the box office. This may be a movie we look back on as a cult classic, given how few people saw it. It is now available on Amazon Prime. 

Building up Anticipation

Here are some of the biggest films we are looking forward to as we wrap up 2022. 

White

White has a scheduled release date of October 5. They are being somewhat mysterious on the details of the plot, suggesting that the more experimental aspects will be more important here. The dream team who will be making this movie is promising in and of itself.

Director Mahesh Manjrekar has already directed several critically acclaimed films, including winning Best Feature Film from the National Film Awards. Some of his other most beloved films include Vaastav: The Reality (1999), Astitva (2000) and Viruddh… Family Comes First (2005). 

He has teamed up with producer Sandeep Singh, making for a formidable alliance. Singh has produced great films such as Mary Kom, Aligarh, Sarabjit, Bhoomi, PM Narendra Modi, and Jhund. We are also looking forward to his biographical films about Subrata Roy.  Mark your calendars for this October! 

Bhediya

Bhediya is the next installment in the Dinesh Vijan universe. This producer has made, now, three movies in this comedy horror series. He has produced several critically and commercially successful films. If you enjoyed the first two, or if this sounds like it us up your alley, this one promises to be the best one! 

This film features the much acclaimed Varun Dhawan, one of India’s highest-paid actors.  This film will see him turned into a werewolf during a full moon! Having previously starred in Main Tera Hero (2014), Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014), and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), we are always looking forward to his new work.  

We are excited for Vijan and Dhawan to team up for this comedy-horror film!
